What happens during Counselling?

During your counselling session, we will discuss your issues and explore why you have reached out for assistance

The initial session is the foundation where you are able to share openly in a safe and non-judgemental space with a licenced therapist

We will assist you with the tools to work through your challenges and will introduce you to evidence-based therapies including, Talk Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance Commitment Therapy

1-on-1 Online

Our 1-on-1 online counselling sessions are via telehealth and can be offered anywhere around Australia and Europe

In-Person Counselling

Our in-person counselling sessions are in two convenient locations in Melbourne CBD and Kew

Counselling sessions available from 10am – 5pm Monday to Friday

Additional sessions available on request in the evenings and on Saturdays (dependant on availability)

  • At Bent Couch Counselling, our counsellors are members of The Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and proudly part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Bent Couch Counselling abides by ACA’s Code of Ethics and Practice.

  • When Bent Couch Counselling reaches out to you, we will call from our official Australian mobile number, +61 499 487 492. If your phone service and technology support caller ID, this number should be displayed when we call.

    For ease of recognition, we recommend adding this number to your contacts. This will help you distinguish our calls from others.

    If discretion is a priority for you, feel free to save our contact under a pseudonym of your choosing in your phone. If we initiate a call we do not disclose who we are or anything about you to anyone other than you and will confirm you are you before we continue.

    Our commitment is to provide you with professional, confidential and secure support at all times.

  • Of course! We provide counselling both online and also by Appointment only in our counselling rooms in Kew & Melbourne CBD.

  • The 1-on-1 sessions last 50 minutes. We focus on your unique situation and abilities, which allows for a tailored personal approach. We use evidenced based therapies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Person-Centred Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy.

  • We are legally obliged to keep all your information confidential. The only time we can breach this commitment to confidentilaity is:

    • when we consider you to be a risk to yourself, or someone else

    • when a child is at risk (all health care workers must report child abuse)

    • where a significant crime has been committed

    • where your counselling records are requested by law

  • Yes, telehealth produces a unique link for each meeting booked. This is encrypted to ensure confidentiality. We simply ask that you make yourself available in a quiet, private space for you to get the most out of the session.

  • Counselling services are not currently included in the Australian Medicare rebate scheme. However, please check directly with your private insurer as rebates may be provided. Unlike Medicare appointments, at Bent Couch Counselling you can choose your own treatment, your own counsellor and the number of sessions.

  • No, although you are free to get one if you like.

  • Bent Couch Counselling supports the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and are available to provide ongoing counselling support for self managed and plan managed NDIS clients.

  • No, this is dictated by you.

  • We are located in Melbourne, Australia.

    Our time zone is Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST)

  • We will send a link for our online session a few hours before the appointment. You do not require additional software for this meeting. A couple of minutes before your allocated time, get yourself comfortable, make sure you are in a private, safe space and, when ready, click on the provided link. You will enter the meeting once we have logged in.

    For our Discovery Call, we will phone you on the number provided in your form.

  • We know unexpected things happen. If for some reason you need to postpone or cancel your appointment, please provide 24hrs notice. Failure to do so will incur the full session fee.

  • An invoice will be emailed directly to you after counselling. We ask for payment in 7 days following your appointment.

  • Bent Couch Counselling is based in Melbourne, Australia and operates online and in rooms conveniently located at both Kew & Melbourne CBD.
