Gay Fathers Worldwide is more than just a peer support group; it's a lifeline for gay and queer men who have children from previous heterosexual relationships. Whether you're still married and exploring your identity, navigating the complexities of divorce, or finding your footing in the world as a proud gay dad, Gay Fathers Worldwide provides a safe space for men to share their experiences, find support, and build meaningful connections with others who truly understand. Founded in 2020, this global network has become a vital resource for men facing the unique challenges of balancing fatherhood with their LGBTQIA+ identity.

About Gay Fathers Worldwide

Hi, I’m Shaun, a proud father of four children. I came out later in life after spending years in a heterosexual marriage. In 2020, I co-founded Gay Fathers Worldwide, a private Facebook group that offers a secure and welcoming environment for gay and queer men to speak openly and without judgment. It’s a place where men can come together to share their stories, seek advice, and support one another through the many ups and downs of fatherhood.

Gay Fathers Worldwide was born out of a personal need for connection and understanding. After coming out, I found there were very few spaces where men like me could talk about the specific challenges we face—whether it's maintaining a relationship with our children, managing strained family dynamics, or simply finding a community that ‘gets it.’ What started as a small, local support group in Melbourne has grown into a thriving international network that reaches men across all corners of the globe. We take great pride in the fact that this resource, which started in Australia, now connects gay fathers worldwide. It’s a testament to the universal need for connection and support among gay dads.

Our community is diverse, inclusive, and ever-expanding. We welcome gay fathers from all walks of life—whether you’re fully out and proud or still grappling with your identity. We know how challenging the journey can be, and our group is here to provide the understanding, encouragement, and shared experiences that help ease that journey.

Empowering Gay Dads at Every Stage

Gay Fathers Worldwide isn't just for dads who are already out of the closet and living authentically. We are here for men at every stage of their journey. Whether you’re still married and wrestling with the uncertainties of your identity, recently separated and trying to find a path forward, or already well into your journey of self-discovery post-divorce, our group is here to offer support. No matter where you are in your personal process, you are not alone.

For those still in heterosexual marriages, navigating the complexities of being a gay man while staying in a relationship with a wife or partner can feel incredibly isolating. You might be unsure about how or when to come out or worry about how your children will respond. Gay Fathers Worldwide provides a confidential space to explore these thoughts and feelings, share your experiences, and hear from others who have been in your shoes.

If you’ve recently separated or divorced, you may be facing a whole new set of challenges, from managing custody arrangements to rebuilding relationships with your children. This period of transition can be difficult, especially when coupled with the emotional weight of coming out and finding acceptance. Gay Fathers Worldwide is here to support you through this time, offering advice from others who’ve gone through similar situations.

And if you’ve already moved forward in your life as an out gay dad, our community offers ongoing support for the challenges you may face, such as building new relationships, navigating co-parenting, or fostering connections with partners and family. From estranged relationships with children or grandchildren to forming new family structures, our group provides a supportive network where you can find advice, encouragement, and a sense of belonging.

Building a Supportive Global Community

At Gay Fathers Worldwide, we are dedicated to creating a community where gay and queer dads feel safe, loved, and supported. Our members span across the globe, from Australia to the UK, the United States, and beyond. Each member brings their unique story, and together, we build a collective resource of experiences, advice, and understanding.

We know that fatherhood can be a lonely journey, especially when combined with the complexities of being a gay or queer man. That’s why our group prioritises regular opportunities for connection. Every month, we hold Zoom meetings where members can talk openly, share their struggles and successes, and connect with others in a meaningful way. These meetings allow fathers to engage with others who are facing similar challenges, offering both emotional support and practical advice.

In addition to our monthly Zoom sessions, Gay Fathers Worldwide hosts global events that bring our community together. These events create an even greater opportunity for fathers to form lasting friendships, expand their support networks, and feel a sense of unity within our global community. While many of our interactions take place online, the bonds formed in these spaces are deep and lasting.

We recognise that not everyone uses Facebook, which is why we also offer alternative ways to connect with the group. Whether it’s through email, our Meetup group, or other platforms, we ensure that all fathers—no matter where they are—have a way to reach out and engage with our community.

A Space for Acceptance and Peace

For many men, coming out later in life can be fraught with anxiety, uncertainty, and fear. Navigating fatherhood while embracing a new identity as a gay man adds an additional layer of complexity. Gay Fathers Worldwide offers a safe, supportive environment where men can find acceptance, peace, and validation. It’s a place where you can be yourself—whether you’re still figuring things out or are confidently living your truth.

Our community is built on the foundation of mutual respect and understanding. Many of our members have experienced profound joy and fulfilment in their lives as gay fathers, and their stories serve as an inspiration to others in the group. Whether you’re at the beginning of your journey or well on your way, there is always someone in the group who can relate to your experience and offer support.

For those struggling with self-acceptance, Gay Fathers Worldwide is a refuge. We’re committed to helping you embrace your identity, connect with others who share your experiences, and thrive as a proud gay dad. Our group is not just a place to survive your journey as a gay father—it’s a place to flourish.

Discover a World of Support, Friendship, and Acceptance

At Gay Fathers Worldwide, we believe that every gay dad deserves to feel understood, accepted, and supported. Whether you’re navigating the early stages of coming out, dealing with the aftermath of a separation, or simply looking for a community of like-minded individuals, we’re here for you. Our global network of gay fathers is ready to welcome you with open arms, offering friendship, advice, and a sense of belonging that many men long for but rarely find.

We also recognise that not all men are on Facebook, and we want to ensure that every father who needs support can access it. If you’re interested in joining our monthly Zoom meetings or connecting with the group in other ways, we invite you to explore our Meetup group or reach out via email. Every message is confidential, and I personally respond to every enquiry.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about Gay Fathers Worldwide. I look forward to welcoming you into our community and helping you on your journey towards a more fulfilling, understood, and proud fatherhood.
